The brand-new building is one of the biggest headliners of this new year at Skyline. The massive new 200 million dollar building opened its doors to students at the very beginning of this year, bringing in a new everything: 3 whole floors, tons of new classrooms, and some beautiful scenery to go along with it. With a brand-new building comes some brand-new features, and one of those new features is the one-minute bell. The one-minute bell is essentially self-explanatory: one minute before your next class starts you will hear a bell that indicates you are one minute out from your next class.
The one-minute bell’s purpose is to make it easier for students to be in class and to have a lot less tardy students. When you have the one-minute bell, it should give you a lot more sense of time management, because you’ll be able to notice when you have only a minute left and need to be in class. If you’re already in a class by the one-minute bell, you’re on time, but, if you’re still in the halls, it’s an indicator that class is about to start, and you should get there as soon as possible to still be on time.
Some thoughts from Skyline’s very own students on how they feel about the new one-minute bell. A freshman student, Quinn Bevan explains how he feels about the one-minute bell. Bevan said, “I feel like the one-minute bell is nice because I know whether I should get to class faster or not.” Besides establishing that the one-minute bell makes things convenient, Bevan also adds more on whether or not the bell is necessary. “I think it is necessary so students get to class on time instead of being two minutes late,” Bevan said. The final question the Horizon asked him was if he thinks that Skyline should keep the one-minute bell to which he responded, “I think we should keep it because it gives students a better opportunity of not being tardy.”
Student Jaxton Crafts also shared what he thought of the one-minute bell. “I think it helps when I’m not sure if I’m going to be on time to class, and it helps me see how much time I have left,” Crafts said. He was also asked if the one minute had affected him at all. “It definitely has,” he said. “It helps me be on time way more to class and not be late as much.”
