What are your plans after graduation? College, work, or no plans at all? Are you nervous, excited, or just trying to get by for the next few years? See what Addi Bookstaber—a senior varsity volleyball player at Skyline High, says about what it’s like to be a senior and her overall experience in highschool, as well as what she plans to do after she graduates.
So, the big question: what’s it like to be a senior? Bookstaber says, “It feels great. I love talking and learning more about the underclassman and being a role model. When I was a freshman it felt wrong to talk to the seniors, so I made sure to change that when I was a senior.”
On the other hand, Bookstaber looks back at her four years of high school: what she loved and hated. “My senior year was definitely my favorite—this [volleyball] team felt like a family who genuinely was here for each other and obviously it paid off. My favorite class was probably graphics, it was really fun and the topic was interesting, but I didn’t like English.”
Four years is a long time, even though it may seem like it goes by extremely fast. A lot happens in four years. Bookstaber states, “My goals my freshman year were pretty unrealistic but it pushed me to become better, now I know what I value more and how I spend my time and my goals are closer than before.”
Furthermore, Bookstaber is spending her senior year in a brand new school; but does she prefer the old one, where the journey began? She remarks, “Honestly the old school, especially the gym. It had this feeling to it that the new gym doesn’t have, that’s the only thing I miss. The smell and the mold I don’t miss as much.”
The old school is where it all began for her. What does she remember about being a freshman? “I remember being really scared of all the upperclassmen and only loving my B days because that’s when game days were.”
Fast forward to four years later and Bookstaber is graduating this May. She states, “I’m so excited, four years is the perfect amount. I don’t think I could do another, so I have definitely been waiting for this.”
Bookstaber is committed to play volleyball at Cal Poly Humboldt and will major in kinesiology.
Even though Addi’s journey is moving on beyond highschool, she says she won’t ever forget the memories and people that Skyline volleyball has given her. Best of luck to Addi Bookstaber—it’s clear her journey is just beginning, and she will do wonderful things in her life.
