Skylines around the United States
This is not the Skyline you are looking for.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe it’s time that we all learn a hard truth. We are not alone. Our Eagle, though it does stand tall and proud, does not stand in solitude. The Skyline High we have come to know and love has gathered a following of other schools who have stolen our name for their own personal benefit.
I know we must feel angry towards these establishments, who selfishly think that our name, with all of it’s beautiful connotations and traditions, belongs to them, but it is only right that we take the high road on this one. Instead of degrading these schools, I feel I should shed some light on the attributes of a few examples of them. In doing so, hopefully, we can learn a bit about the demographic and lifestyle of our nation, and how it differs from that of our home.
First let’s talk about our closest neighboring Skyline, built in 1968 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In all honesty, this school is quite similar to our own. It is predominantly white and predominantly Mormon, which makes it the only other Skyline in the country to share these attributes.
Alas, we cannot learn much from our friend in Idaho, save for the fact that it quite possibly possesses a greater football rivalry than our own (the two teams share a stadium!) and that some people can associate Skyline with a Grizzly- their mascot- instead of an Eagle (the fact that they can do this is simply beyond me, I must say). Moving on then!
Next, we fly to Dallas, specifically to a “magnet school” by the name of Skyline High on the edge of town. What I first noticed about this school was that it might actually be smarter than our own, with over 1000 students graduating per class. If that wasn’t impressive, they carry both an advanced curriculum purpose-built to prepare you for a career, along with their normal high school classes. That sounded pretty amazing to me until I made a simple realization: There’s no way that they could be smarter than us, right? Let’s keep moving.
In Ann Arbor, Michigan, one would find the baby of the bunch. Skyline High School opened for business there a mere 8 years ago! It was opened because of the overcrowding of it’s surrounding schools, which I think is something that our staff back in SLC could learn a thing or two from, but that’s a conversation for another time. Because of its age, there’s little to gain from it, except for a bit of perspective. The population there is well in the majority of minorities, which is interesting to think about, given the status of our own school.
We now continue to Oakland, California, to look at, believe it or not, Skyline High School. This school was established in 1959, which is surprisingly 3 years before our school opened it’s doors, making this school the oldest of the Skylines.
Also, Tom Hanks went there, meaning that we could say that he graduated from Skyline, and nobody would be the wiser, right? Fun Facts! Again, this school puts our demographic in perspective, as it is only 7% white (the largest majority being 39% Latino). This says something about the demographics of our state.
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. We take the return trip home, to the great city of Salt Lake, and visit Skyline High, the best of all the Skylines. We are king of academics, athletics, rivalries you name it. I’m not gonna list all of the statistics for you, because you already know how great we are, but I will amend my statement earlier. Our Eagle does not have any company. Our Eagle, the GREAT Skyline Eagle, stands alone.
