Arielle Meredith is a new math teacher and head basketball coach at Skyline High School, teaching Secondary Math I. She previously taught at Taylorsville High School for 7 years, coming to Skyline to take on the role of head basketball coach. She has always been passionate about mathematics as well as sports, and is excited for her first year at Skyline. She grew up in Utah, and graduated from Utah State University with a major in PE and a minor in Math.
About her classroom environment, she stated that she wants to prepare students for life after high school. “I feel like there’s a divide between high school and adult life, so I want to bridge that gap.” She strives to have personal connections with her students, and considers herself to be very laid-back and easy to talk to.
She attended Olympus High School, as did the rest of her family. “The rivalry is super strong. When I told [my family] I was coming here, they were like, ‘Why? We’re going to have to learn how to wear blue…’ ” Compared to the previous school she has taught at, she’s enjoying the culture and learning habits of Skyline, especially how the students are eager to learn and are focused in class.
In high school she was quiet and reserved, but found ways to be involved with her school. “I did a lot of sports; I feel like that was most of my personality.” Along with her passion for sports—including soccer, baseball, softball, but especially basketball—she has always loved math, and excelled in it throughout her education. She has now taken her love for both basketball and math and turned it into her career.
In her free time, Meredith enjoys playing the piano, taking walks with her dog and son, and watching TV. “I can’t choose a favorite TV show. But I love Disney movies, it’s a little guilty pleasure of mine.”
