Skyline kicked off its first RISE Week in school history, full of dress themes throughout the week, lunch activities, and games. RISE Week is somewhat different from what Skyline usually does, as last year it was called “Homecoming Week.” RISE Week went from September 30 to October 4. RISE Week is meant to illustrate the theme of RISE, which stands for Resilience, Integrity, Support, and Excellence.
RISE week started on Monday with PJ Day, where students came to school dressed in pajamas, meant to show resilience. Popsicles were also served on the football field during lunch. Tuesday was Identical Integrity Day, or Twin Day, which encouraged students to dress up the same as another person (show integrity). The lunch activity was to draw your twin eagle. Wednesday was Support Success Day—or Adam Sandler Day—where you were supposed to dress in the baggiest clothes. At lunch, there was a movie trivia Kahoot, where prizes were given out. Thursday was Younger Self Day, where students were supposed to dress as their younger selves. Chalk drawings were also in front of the school as the lunch activity. Finally, the theme on Friday was Future Self Day in which students were encouraged to dress in college or business apparel.
The week was a success according to Skyline student Jacob Adair, who said, “I felt it was a very productive week. I thought I showed school spirit this week, and it was important for Skyline to come together and mesh.” Adair was also asked if he participated in any of the activities during RISE Week: “I dressed up every day. I think it was cool to see the more childish side of high schoolers as they act a little bit older and more mature than they are.” Adair also stated his opinion on whether Skyline should improve RISE Week. He said, “I think they could promote RISE Week more and maybe have more advertising and more after-school activities during RISE Week. I think this would further bring Skyline students together.” He said his favorite day was “probably pajama day. I liked pajama day because it was fun to show my silly side and dress in pajamas, because Freshman don’t often do that.” This shows that Skyline RISE Week this year was an overall success, and, with a few improvements, Skyline can make it even better next year.
