The Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) is an indoor golf league created in August 2022 that has struggled to gain popularity and fundraising, with the first ever match, between The Bay Golf Club and New York Golf Club, on January 7, 2025. The TGL has some of the most successful golfers in the world, like Tiger Woods and Rory Mclroy, competing against each other in teams and one-on-one. These teams are Atlanta Golf Club, Boston Commons Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club. The league hosts their matches in Sofi Center Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The TGL has state of the art technology and is the peak of simulator golf, using a simulator called Full Swing. Although the technology claims to be reliable, not everyone trusts it and has made some mistakes, with the Skyline head golf coach Kenny James saying, “I don’t know if the technology will be accurate.” The players stand on a platform and either hit off real fairway grass, real sand, or real thick rough into a screen. This screen is massive, being 64’x53’, over 24 times bigger than the average simulator screen. Not only is the screen bigger, but the players stand just over 30 yards away, allowing more accurate ball flight tracking.
The teams will face off in two-hour matches across 15 virtual holes. Triples will play nine holes, and singles will play 6 holes. Each hole is worth one point , and the winner of each hole is decided by which team/team member has the fewest shots. The team with the most points at the end will win the match. If teams tie, there will be a 3v3 closest to the pin. Each member of the team has a microphone that allows for the viewers to listen to how the players approach a shot and how they react to every situation that they are confronted with. Although this allows for the viewer to learn about how the team members play, they also get to hear the small talk and jokes said between the players, allowing for more comedy and a more expressive experience.
There is a referee watching over the players that is there for clarifying the rules and watching for the team to call timeouts. There is a rule called “The Hammer”; when a team “throws in the hammer,” they make the hole they are on worth double points, allowing teams to make a comeback.
