The newly elected Skyline Student Body Officers (SBO) and Class Officers for the year 2026–2027 were announced at the Student Officer Winners (SOW) assembly. The winning candidates representing Skyline worked hard to show why they were capable of being the new SBOs.
The Sophomore Class Secretary was announced to be Sophie Heimburger, the Freshman Class Secretary this year. During the campaign, there’s many things candidates need to worry about, and that could create stress and doubt. Heimburger said, “I just kind of focused on myself, knowing that I would try my best.” She explained how she gave it her all, and as long as she tried, it was enough.
Heimburger highly encourages people to run for SBO. She stated, “It completely changed my perspective on high school.” She said that being SBO gave her many opportunities to connect with Skyline students in a way she never thought she could.
The Junior Vice President is going to be Tye Oswald, a Sophomore this year. Tye expressed his doubts and how he handled them. He explained, “To push through, I think you just gotta talk to positive people.” He said he was able to move on from negative thoughts by being around more people who brought his spirits up.
Oswald explained that having a good attitude ups the chances. He stated, “You don’t need a perfect video. You don’t need a perfect campaign. All you need is confidence.”
The new Students Activities Board (SAB) Presidentis Junior Nate Bennion. He expressed his surprise after getting the position, saying, “I was in utter shock. I was not expecting to win, so I was pretty awestruck.”
He explained that he went around lunch to try and connect with the students during the campaign. He stated, “Personal connections are what help people remember you.” He said that talking to many students and connecting with them helps them remember when it’s time to vote.
There’s many stressful things about campaigning, but what was the hardest part for Bennion? He explained, “The most stressful part running for it was the night before finding out who won, because it’s all racing through your mind: Was it all worth it? It’s my last year here. Did I put in enough effort? Did I put in too little?” Since this was going to be his last year, all these thoughts were in his head before finally knowing who won.
The Publicity Officer for next year is Junior George Pugsley. Running for SBO can be hard, and there could be many times where candidates doubt themselves. Pugsley said, “Basically every day of the running, I doubted that I would win.” He explained that there were many steps to the process, and he just kept going.
Pugsley also stated that the interview was the most stressful part of the campaign for him. He explained that he knew he had to make an impact on the interviewers. He said, “The more I talked to them and connected with them, I knew I could do better.” He explained that it was a longer interview, and it was hard, since many people were going to say similar things and answers.
The Student Body Secretary for 2026–2027 is Junior Romney Woodcox. Opposite of Bennion, Woodcox stated that the start was the most stressful part of campaigning. He said, “I was really worried I wasn’t gonna get it, and there’s that issue of, if I don’t think I’m gonna get it, is it worth it to try?” Woodcox explained that he decided it didn’t matter if he got it or not; he was just going to try and do his best.
His advice to people who are thinking about running for SBO is: “Just do it. If you’re gonna run, just do it.” He expressed his joy running for SBO and said it was a great experience. Woodcox said, “Just having people there for you, I think, is the main thing that kept me going.”
