The Skyline Women’s Golf team is known to be very good at golf, winning state in 2023 and 2024 and getting third place in 2025.
The season started this spring and has now ended with Skyline’s Women’s Golf Team getting first in regionals and getting first in state on May 18–19 at Riverbend Golf Course!
Freshman Kate Bahr said, “The Varsity team, they’re pretty high up there, and there are a lot of good players in there, and even the JV team, I think we’ve done pretty well.”
Because not many high schools have their own golf courses, their golf teams have to practice and have tournaments at community golf courses. They practice about three times a week and are free to practice throughout the golf course during practices.
Freshman Millie Lantz said, “[We play] just wherever it’s convenient. We’ll do that at Nibley Park, for example, or really just anywhere.”
About practices, Bahr adds, “You kind of just work on what you need, like if you need to work on your chipping or your putting, you can go do that. Or if your irons need work, you can just go somewhere and hit on the range.”
Scoring for golf is different compared to other sports, with players wanting to get the least amount of strokes. The top girls on Skyline’s team are getting high 70s and low 80s in strokes, the average being in the 80s.
Lantz said, “We have our score sheets, and we just turn them in, and then they do it from there. Like [the winner is] the school with the least amount of overall hits.”
There are much more Freshmen on the team than any of the other grades. Lantz explains that it’s “because [Coach Kenny] doesn’t want to take Juniors and Seniors that have no experience. But if you’re a Freshman or Sophomore and you just practice with him for a month, you’re automatically on [the team].”
Bahr said, “As long as you put in the work and try your best, you’ll have a good time on the team. You don’t have to be the best to try and have fun.”
