Lunch is arguably the best part of the school day. It is a time that students have to themselves to rest and spend time with friends. Since the demolition of the Skyline cafeteria and the remodeling of Skyline, many students have been forced to find new spots to eat lunch.

Skyline High School is only a five minute walk from nearby stores such as Macey’s, Einstein’s Bros Bagels, and Subway. Many students choose to walk there for lunch, especially on intervention days. One student said, “It’s fun to buy whatever you want…and bring my friends with me.” Other students choose to drive to places that are not too far, like Smith’s and Swig. Very few students also choose to Doordash or Ubereats, though ordering food to be delivered at school could be risky, especially if the food arrives during class time. While upperclassmen can drive, going wherever they want for lunch, underclassmen are left to find a place to eat lunch at school.

Several students choose to eat lunch either in the hallway, cafeteria, or in classrooms. Some teachers let their students have lunch in their classrooms. One student who wished to remain anonymous said, “Sometimes me and my friends like to eat [lunch] in Ardi’s room…It’s like we have a whole room to ourselves.” Many students, however, choose to eat lunch in the hallways, most of whom eat in the B building. Some students expressed that they enjoy being near the vending machines, and they prefer to sit on the floor rather than concrete. Though few, some students enjoy eating in the cafeteria. Since the school began to remodel, the cafeteria has moved into a portable. However, some students feel that the cafeteria is too claustrophobic for their liking. Many of the students at Skyline look forward to the new school being built, and some hope for a new cafeteria. As Skyline continues to remodel, students will continue to find new spots to eat lunch.
