The Winter Concert that combined the Choir, Orchestra, and Band was on Thursday, December 13. It was the last Winter Concert that would be played in the old B-Building, which made the concert sentimental for some.
Freshman Miranda Park, who is in the Soprano/Alto Chorus, said, “I don’t have many memories here, but while I’ve been here, I’ve met so many wonderful people and had a great time. However, I am also excited to see the new building.”
There are multiple choirs at Skyline, including the Soprano/Alto Tenor/Bass Chorus, Troubadours, Highlights, Madrigals, Concert Choir, Songleaders, and Captains. They all got to sing their own songs, but they also sang the “Hallelujah Chorus” together.
Freshman Rafe Lorenzon, who is in the Tenor/Bass Chorus, said, “We sang ‘Keresimesi o dun de o,’ the Home Alone Melody, and the ‘Hallelujah Chorus.’”
Park said, “When [all the choirs] actually got together, it was pretty cool, but it was hard sometimes, because we all rehearsed separately until two days or a day before the concert.”
The Choirs also got to sing some songs with the Band and Orchestra, including “Hallelujah Chorus,” “Peace, Peace,” and “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas,” both from Home Alone.
When asked about the Band and Orchestra, Lorenzon said, “I think [the Choir and Orchestra and Band together] sounded good.” He said his favorite song was the “‘Hallelujah Chorus,’ […] because what it’s about and it sounds amazing.”
Some songs were also harder to sing than others, and the different parts, whether Soprano or Alto, Tenor or Bass, all had their own difficulties.
About her least favorite song, Park said, “I feel like the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ [was my least favorite]. It was good and really pretty, but the thing is, I’m a Soprano, and I felt like sometimes I was gonna pass out, because we had to hold a lot of really high notes for eight counts right after each other.”
Lorenzon also mentioned that “Keresimesi o dun de o” was difficult, because “you had to be really articulate” with the words because the song was not in English, so the words were harder to understand and pronounce.
Overall, the Choir kids were excited for the concert on Thursday and could not wait to sing together and with the Band and Orchestra.
Park concluded, “It was so cool, because all the people were joined together.”
