Spider-Man: Brand New Day was recently announced at the end of March, after almost five years of waiting. This is Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie and has been highly anticipated. The previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, left fans with a massive cliff hanger: what will happen to Peter Parker after everyone has forgotten who he is? The trailer has brought about many discussions of Spider-Man and the Marvel universe within Skyline High School.
The new movie is set to come out July 31 ,and it picks up four years after the events of No Way Home, with Peter Parker now living in total isolation, having erased himself from the lives and memories of everyone he loves. The trailer shows him living in a small apartment, visibly worn down. It also teases a strange biological transformation, with Parker appearing to resemble a real spider, which means something new and more dangerous may take place.
Junior Dane Kadlec said the trailer was a little more creepy than he expected. He said, “The tone seems darker than the other movies, and I think it’s gonna make the movie way better than the previous ones.” Kadlec is hopeful for Peter, stating, “He pretty much has nothing left to lose, because everybody he loved is either dead or has forgotten who he is, but ultimately I hope he can make Ned and MJ [Peter Parker’s friend and girlfriend] remember.”
The trailer featured Bruce Banner, which has made fans such as Derryck Zitting anticipate Banner “helping Spider-Man reverse the spell that Dr. Strange put on him.” Senior Sam Simos thinks that having the Hulk in this movie will maybe mean having some cool fight scenes with both of them. Sadie Sink (actor in the hit show Stranger Things) is also listed in the cast, but as of right now, it is unknown who she will be playing.
There is still some criticism coming in, as some fans see it as unneeded, “I feel like a Spider-Man 4 is very unnecessary, but I think it’s worth a try,” Zitting says. When talking about the Marvel universe as a whole and the direction it has taken towards time travel and the multiverse, Zitting thinks, “It makes the casual audience confused.” This sentiment is shared by others who feel Marvel has been overcomplicating their story lines with too many storylines and alternate realities. “It’s hard to fully understand what is going on in the Marvel universe without watching all the spinoffs and Disney+ shows,” says Kadlec.
Despite these concerns, Spider-Man 4 has many fans eager to see Peter Parker back in action. “I’m excited its gonna be a fresh change for Spider-Man,” Zitting said.
