The construction of the Porsche dealership is coming to a near end. Construction began in August 2025 and is expected to conclude midway through the year on Wasatch Blvd across from the Olympus Hills Shopping Center. The new dealership has taken over open space, which has sparked concerns about the aesthetic, usefulness, and long term impact.
The dealership has been put strategically near the Olympus Cove to attract the wealthy; however, it also takes away scenery of the valley from those supposed buyers. The project takes up four acres of land and does not complement the surrounding landscape. “It doesn’t look like it’s supposed to be here, and I don’t even think they will get enough business,” Skyline Junior Dane Kadlec states. Kadlec also voiced his concern with the view being taken away, saying, “Going to Macy’s and looking at a big dealership is not as good as looking into the valley.” A sports car dealership is not what should have been put on that plot of land; there is not a big enough market, and there is already a dealership downtown. Like past shops in the Olympus Shopping Center, its time will hopefully not last very long.
Aside from the concerns of appearance, some students are also questioning the dealership’s proximity to Skyline. Senior Sam Simos said, “That close to a high school might bring some unwanted attention.” Having a luxury sports car dealership so close to a school could lead to distractions and traffic. Driving on Wasatch Blvd is already chaotic enough, and this will just add a whole other level to it. Simos added, “If they let me test drive one, I will definitely be doing that, though.”
